IPD ROUND TABLE
ARCDOX and CITA are hosting a 12 month series of webinar based round table discussions on IPD (Integrated Project Delivery)
ArcDox are members of CITA (Construction IT Alliance), a network of construction & IT professionals, committed to promoting information technology, research and innovation in Small/Medium Enterprises in the construction industry. Ralph Montague, managing partner of ArcDox, is coordinating a special interest working group within CITA on BIM (Building Information Modelling). You can follow the CITA BIM Group on LinkedIn.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a process for developing 3D design and construction documentation, virtual building analysis, programming and cost information, that is dramatically changing the way the construction industry works around the world.
Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a building procurement method which implements a negotiated and integrated agreement between owner, contractor and designers, that empowers the integrated team to utilize Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Lean Construction processes effectively in an integrated environment.
All project stakeholders can benefit enormously from the effective use of these new tools, reducing the cost of planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance by significant amounts. While designers, contractors and operators around the world are beginning to collaborate more efficiently using these processes, the Irish construction industry lags far behind in the adoption of these technologies and working procedures. To address this, the CITA BIM Group has initiated a webinar series of round table discussions on IPD (Integrated Project Delivery). This series will allow like-minded construction industry partners from all regions in Ireland to engage in meaningful discussion about BIM & IPD, both of which are going to have profound effects on our current procedures, procurement methods and agreements. Our industry needs to get up to speed in these processes, or risk being left behind in the global market.
The IPD Round Table discussions will be chaired by James Salmon, president of US-based Collaborative Construction Resources (CCR). James is an experienced construction lawyer who serves on both the National Building Information Model Standards (NBIMS) Project Committee and the Build SMART Alliance's Business Process Integration Task Team, (BPITT). The US is a leading adopter of IPD, BIM and Lean practices, and as a construction solicitor, James is at the cold face of how IPD has worked (or not worked), and will offer valuable insight into this new process. He will lead the discussion each month, defining key terms and outlining a specific IPD challenges faced by integrated team members. He will described solutions used in the US and will explore possible applications to other markets, including the EU. He will then open the floor to discussion from the hosts around the world.
The topics that will be discussed will evolve depending on demand from participants, but will broadly cover items such as:
-
Building Information Modelling
-
Lean Construction
-
Integrated Project Delivery
-
Last Planner System
-
Integrated Agreements
-
