Dr.Alan Hore, Executive Director of CITA (Construction IT Allaince), has selected Ralph Montague, partner of ARCDOX , to help set up and coordinate  a special interest working group on BIM (Building Information Modelling) within the CITA network.

 

The CITA BIM Group will function within the remit of the CITA Enterprise Innovation Network (EIN) initiative (see http://cita.ie/EIN/ for more details), which aims to promote information technology, research and innovation in Small/Medium Enterprises in the construction industry. The objective of the CITA EIN project is to promote, through detailed research and analysis of requirements, development or procurement of solutions, and promotion of their implementation, the use of electronic business in small and medium sized companies in the European construction sector.

 

This group comprises members of the CITA EIN network, with a particular interest in BIM (Building Information Modelling), with the express purpose to investigate the benefits of BIM and ideas for the general advancement of BIM for the Irish Construction Industry, and report finding back to the CITA network and wider construction industry. The aim is to promote some joined up thinking amongst industry partners, on the adoption and implementation of BIM, and the hope is that the findings can also form part of a lobbying campaign to government and other client bodies, to help promote the general use of BIM in this country. There is an aspirational goal that the efforts of this group could eventually lead to the formation of a BIM Centre of Excellence for Ireland, to advise the industry.

 

The success of this project will depend on the collaborative input from the most diverse range of people from the construction industry as possible, from consultants to contractors, clients and end-users, IT consultants, software vendors, manufacturers and related service providers.
