Conceptual Energy Analysis (Revit, Green Building Studio, Ecotect & Vasari)
This course introduces students to the essentials of Vasari, Green Building Studio (GBS) and Ecotect Analysis, covering several topics that are vital for sustainable design. Attendees will learn basic features and capabilities to perform energy analysis on Revit models. They will receive an overview of the named software packages and walkthrough demonstrations showing how to perform common tasks. We will also investigate workflows that have the biggest impact on building performance. Topics include:
- An overview of BIM for sustainable design.
- Tools for researching regional climate issues
- Studying impact of massing, placement, and layout on energy consumption
- Modelling Human Comfort
- Optimizing the Design of the Building Envelope for Sustainability by looking at daylighting and materials
- Importing/exporting models to different software
This course is intended for architects, architectural technicians, engineers, other construction professionals and project managers who have a basic understanding of Building Information Modelling and want to learn the tools which facilitate sustainable design.
Prerequisites:
Students should be comfortable with the fundamentals of Revit as taught in the Revit Architecture Fundamentals course. Knowledge of basic techniques is assumed, such as creating walls, roofs, and other objects, copying and moving objects, creating and working with views, etc.
