This course provides an overview of managing files in the cloud using Autodesk Forma Data Management (FDM), formerly Autodesk Docs. It teaches you to control sharing and distribution, manage conflicts and changes, and better predict project deliverables to lower project risk. Companies using Autodesk FDM to manage their Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflow will benefit from this course because they will learn the fundamental tools that will allow them to begin managing their data in the cloud.

Course Overview

You will learn how to upload and manage architectural, structural, MEP and infrastructure models in the FDM platform. You will review and use mark-up tools to communicate issues across disciplines and work with transmittals and reports on your project. Account and Project Administration will be covered to ensure you know how to create a project, manage project settings, team members, and account library, to create and configure project templates, including setup to ISO 19650 naming and workflows. While this course focuses on Autodesk FDM, Account and Project Admin, we will also provide an overview of the additional Autodesk Forma modules.

Recommended experience level

No previous experience is required.

Course Format

This online course consists of multiple modules delivered over 5 hours of live (online) instruction and time for self-directed learning.

• Delivery: Online via Microsoft Teams
• Schedule: 1 hour per day at 1:00 PM (Irish Time – GMT/IST)
• Duration: 5 days total
• Access: Participants require a free Microsoft Teams or Office 365 account

Each module includes a 1-hour live (online) session with the trainer, complemented by approximately 1 hour of self-paced learning

Note: In the event of a Bank Holiday, the course will be delivered over 4 days, maintaining the total of 5 hours of live (online) instruction. One day (TBC) will include a double session.

Overview of the FDM and Insight

FDM overview and services, explaining the different modules available.

Insight overview, project dashboards, executive overview and reports,

Customizing dashboards and working with cards.

Account Administration and Project Administration

Overview of Admin tools and settings, how to access and Create Projects, managing account members, managing account library and settings.

Understanding project admin members and settings tools, creating a project, editing project settings, managing project team members, assigning member roles and company affiliations, reviewing and managing member permissions.

Overview of project templates, creating and configuring project templates

Overview, Establishing folder structure and permissions

Docs overview, user interface, admin tasks including Naming Standard; project creation and basic setup, inviting team members, creating project folder structures, managing folder permissions and advanced settings

Working with files, viewings/comparing, mark-ups, document reviews

Working with Files in FDM, Viewing and Comparing files, mark-ups and measuring, downloading documents and publishing sheets from pdf documents. Setting up Document Reviews, initiating and managing reviews. Revit and the Autodesk Desktop Connector

Docs – Working with transmittals, issues and reports

Working with Transmittals, creating and managing transmittals, viewing and exporting transmittals. Setting up and working with issues, creating and closing issues, editing, searching, sorting, filtering and exporting issues. Working with reports, setting up, creating, viewing and managing reports
