Description

This course is intended to provide guidance, advice, and direction to people who are looking to develop careers as BIM Coordinators or Managers or participate in BIM projects.

Recommended experience level
No previous experience is required.

Course Format

This online course consists of multiple modules delivered over 10 hours of live (online) instruction and time for self-directed learning.

• Delivery: Online via Microsoft Teams
• Schedule: 1 hour per day at 1:00 PM (Irish Time – GMT/IST)
• Duration: 10 days total
• Access: Participants require a free Microsoft Teams or Office 365 account

Each module includes a 1-hour live (online) session with the trainer, complemented by approximately 1 hour of self-paced learning

Note: In the event of a Bank Holiday, the course will be delivered over 9 days, maintaining the total of 10 hours of live (online) instruction. One day (TBC) will include a double session.

Why?

Why should you be considering digital construction in terms of your career and business

Focus on trends to digitization in the construction sector and the built environment, and how those trends require AEC professionals who are able to operate in this digital manner

What?

What you need to know about digitization in the construction sector and built environment

Review the skill and knowledge sets in relation to digital construction

How?

How you would execute your role under the ISO 19650 standard for information management either as a task information manager or as a project information manager

Graphical data

Interacting with the graphical data or 3D models

How you can interrogate and engage with models to share, review, make markups and comments using freely available tools

Non-graphical data

Focus on the digital propertied and attributes of information that relate to buildings and infrastructure

How you would structure and manage this information through product data sheets

How you would deliver data for COBie

Documents

Focus on documents and how we specify what documents are required

Reviewing the two types of sets of documentation in relation to tasks and those relating to elements of the building

How we plan and manage the delivery of this documentation

The CDE

Focus on the Common Data Environment which is the primary tool that everyone will use to manage and coordinate information, and share information in the digital process

Model authoring

Understanding how model authoring works and how you can engage with these models

Model coordination

Bringing different models together into a federated model environment, or combined model with all disciplines

Within this environment you can carry out coordination review and clash tests, programming, quantification and other analysis

EIR & BEP (and final thoughts)

Review of the Exchange Information Requirements and the BIM Execution Plan which are two particularly important documents for managing this process
